Four Leaf Clovers
Four Leaf Clovers
You may not believe it but the afternoon you disappeared,
I found a four leaf clover
Amongst clusters of green
And a stirring of sunshine with moist soil.
It was a prize earned by sore elbows, dirty hands.
I imagined myself handing you the clover
With a little smile and the wish that
You would keep smiling, forever.
Perhaps you would have laughed.
Perhaps you would have refused.
Perhaps you would not have gone away if
I had found the clover sooner.
You may not believe it but I have given up
On four leaf clovers.
