Midnight Inquiries
Sometime I wonder
If it’s worth it all—
The rush to the top,
And then the hard fall.
I wonder if it’s
Worth this rhyme.
The pain, the heartache
Just to make him mine.
The velvet pleasures
Slap a smile on my face
So I can turn the tears
Into decorative lace.
The clichéd love
I but a nom de plume
For what I fear
Is taking over.
Choking me
In its icy grip,
The acute pain of hope
That’s keeping me sober.
Yes, I do wonder
If it’s worth it all.
But until I fall again…
I’ll just have to stall.
