I'd Hate to Disappoint You
There's this feeling I get when I disappoint you-
It's an aching deep pit in my chest.
My lungs feel like they may collapse,
My breath isn't steady.
My heart feels like it's falling out,
While my throat dries up.
My excuses and justifications can't escape.
My lips are shut tight.
It isn't a feeling comparable to "the butterflies"
It isn't the same feeling I get when I talk to a cute boy, or when I'm up on stage in front of a room full of people.
No, no, it's not the same.
When I disappoint you I feel it in
My hands (they're shaking)
My heart and lungs (are aching)
My feet - restless
My eyes - dry
My nails - to the nub
My skin - goosebumps
While my knees lock up,
My legs turn to jello.
I can't sit, nor can I stand.
My brain screams "fess up!"
I ache.
I hate to disappoint you.
