I've Never Written a Poem without a Name

Is the story of any similarity?
Heartbreak isn't something I deserve to bear.
Constantly resenting the mask that sweet girl has to wear.
It's unbelievable - you'd rather it be me!?

When she was thirteen
She turned into me
She wanted to vocalize - chased the squirrels at night
The thought of California almost felt right

The skeletons in her closet have built up with time
But I'm not allowed to tell anyone why
It's amazing - the affect one person can have on your mind
Well, your abilities on mine, I'd say they're just fine.

I'm calling because it's the end of the world, is everything alright?
I looked all over town for you, but you were completely out of sight
I searched your home and interviewed your family
Then I finally realized, your heart left without me.

The author's comments:
The story I am talking about in the first line is referring to Romeo and Juliet. The mask I am talking about is jealousy in insecurity. When I'm talking about the "sweet girl," I'm talking about myself. The last stanza was inspired by the song "Everything is Alright" by Motion City Soundtrack. Every other reference is too personal to put on here, I think.
