Not Alone

I feel you when you hold me
I hear you when you speak
You brush my skin
So mild and meek

You come to me
Visit every day
I can’t respond
But you come anyway

You hold my hand
You sing to me
You listen to
My silent plea

Sometimes I can hear you
When you cry
Sometimes I lay
And wonder why

You touch my face
You hold me tight
You lay with me
Through every night

You pray for me
Hope I will not die
I feel you staring
Where I lie

I pray for you
You’ll be just fine
You’ll find a girl
Who’s worth your time

You will miss me
But not for long
A few years later
The memories will be gone

At this moment
You touch my cheek
You hold my hand
And I feel weak

My heartbeat irregular
The moments too quick
My mind clouds
As you panic

I feel your sweat
Seep onto my palms
You apologize
For all you wrongs

If I could speak
Then I would say
“I forgive you.”
In an honest way

You kiss me
I feel you there
I will always know
How much you care

My throat it swells
I barely breathe
Then you plead
“Another moment, please!”

I try and try
Those last three words
But my mouth won’t open
And I’m hearing birds

So I think
With all might my might
“I Love You.”
But I see the light

Each word I think
So hard and slow
Can you hear it?
I don’t know

I hope you felt
Those words so true
Then I hear it
“I love you, too.”
