Red Eyes and a Pierced Tongue
I was the apple of my mother’s eyes
I was the joy of her heart, I was her pride
Influenced by the brother I adored
I followed his footsteps but I was ignored
My mother told me not to walk his way
But I loved my brother, so I walked to him anyways
I told my mother I wanted to get red contacts
She said she wasn’t having it, she said only fags do that
She said she doesn’t want me to end up like him
I assured her that I’m different, that I’ll never be like him
Later on I wanted to pierce my tongue
I was reckless I was young
I told my friends and they would say
Yeah that’s fine if you wanna be gay
So I stopped talking to family and I stopped talking to friends
I found a local church and found somewhere I was accepted in
They told me that we all come from dark and twisted places
They said that none were innocent, they said but don’t worry follow the light and everything changes
But none of their problems were like mine
So I kept them secret, forever they would hide
When I’m alone at night
I release my secrets and bring them to the light
This night was different than the others
A storm was raging and windows shuddered
I screamed to the light,
“This is the truth the dark twisted and disgusting truth”
As I spoke these words, my eyes changed color
The same ruby red that disgusted my mother.
“I’ve got red eyes and pierced tongue
Tell me what the hell has happened to you your son
I hear stories of redemption and slaves who became free
But none have a story that’s similar to me.
I didn’t want this, but you let it happen
And no power on this earth can stop this madness
So look at me
Do I look redeemed, do I look free
I’ve got red eyes and a pierced tongue
What the hell has happened to your son”
