Welcome
You’ll find him by the door,
Bright and ready for the day.
He’ll always be there,
Any day, rain or shine.
You’ll see the girl he adores,
Always dressed to the nines,
With shoes too valuable to wear,
And satin gloves to match.
You’ll find them in their daily ritual:
A smile here, a smile there,
A wipe here, a step there,
And the door closes behind her.
You’ll see him by the door,
More dirty and more aged.
He was always there,
Any day, rain or shine.
You’ll find the girl he once adored,
Whom he still loves but is not sure.
A girl too valuable to waste,
And a behavior to match.
You’ll see them in their daily ritual.
Unsmiling, unhappy, the girl wipes her feet
And steps all over him,
In the end, coming out clean.
