The Wake
In the distance,
There’s the undertow.
Underneath me; the sand.
I feel the cold water
As it brushes over my toes.
The ocean ahead,
I look at the sunset.
The sky filled with reds,
Oranges, and yellows,
I begin to walk ahead.
I feel the surface come
Over my ankles.
The current begging
Me to come farther.
I answer its commands
And the water hits my knees.
Soon enough the begging call
Is drowned by the sound of my own
Ears going under.
The bubbles escape from my mouth
As I breath what air is left in my lungs.
Finally the reds,
Oranges, and yellows give way
To a sea of blue.
