The Queen of the Forest
When the sunlight peering
through the forest canopy
started to fade away,
And the shiny moon
in the starry sky came out to mark the end of the day;
As the nightingale, the dove
the flowers and herbs
all went away to sleep;
And when to make the night
lively the owl, the bats and
all the snakes came out to creep;
I walked into the Forest.
The branches clawing in twists,
The sky blaze with emerald mist,
The wind blowing past my face cold
Pampered and nourished the labyrinth old.
Hush, I hear sounds,
The sounds of the unheard;
It is the sound of the trees, the wind,
Of the creatures in the dark who always roar.
I walked deeper into the forest.
Summoned by the jungle,
Seduced by the pale moon,
walked further down the tangles.
The thicket tempts my nocturnal lures
The moonlight kisses my cold pale face
The uncanny silence awakens my desire
To mince deeper into its frozen grace.
These swaying trees are singing
In voices they cry my name;
These occurrents arouse a feeling
that this night is not the same.
Here the wicked cold wind blows
It whispers my name unceasingly;
Bidding me into its deep dark womb
it calls me to stay here eternally.
And so I decide to remain here forever
I shall dwell here in the heart of the forest.
As I was born here in the lap of the trees
So I shall die here in the earth’s crest.
Here, in this resplendent place
My spirit forever will stay.
My shroud will be the thicket’s tranquil face
And in the coffin of earth’s soil I shall lay.
And now the evil wind drifts with satisfaction,
The trees sing in felicity
Tonight I am their queen
So I shall reign in divinity.
