The Day You Said Hello
Sometimes it’s easy to forget
The ordinary day that we first met
We were only ten years old
But even then I knew my heart was sold
The years flew by as best-ever friends
From sandboxes to swingsets to other trends
As we got older, I saw him as much more
Than the boy I met in the local bookstore
Heartbreak after heartbreak showed him that
The girl for him was waiting on his doormat
He finally realized how right we could be
And he finally wanted to be with me
He asked, “When did you know that you loved me so?”
I smiled and said, “I knew since the day you said hello.”

This poem shows two childhood friends that grew very close and were best friends, but realized they could become something more. I believe the best relationships have a solid friendship base, and that's what inspired me to write this poem.
