My Characters
My stories always start with
Characters.
But just a glance.
A word
A gesture
A quirk
A witty remark
The rest shrouded in mystery
And I try to catch them
As they elude me
Find pieces of their faces on the city bus
Fragments of their souls
Caught between the shelves in a gas station
Every one is like a song
That I hear in my dreams
And can't remember the next morning
But search desperately for
Each note placed only
After weeks of frantic exploration
I am hopelessly tied to them
Our souls entwined in ways
I will never understand
And soon after I begin searching
They are no longer my own
They evolve and change without me
But leave me changed
Too
And I don't understand
How it works
And I don't know
Why
But I must tell their stories
And let the world have them
So the world can change
Too
