The Love Song of Laura E. Horovitz
“Do not be too moral. You may cheat yourself out of much life. Aim above morality. Be not simply good; be good for something.” – Henry David Thoreau
Let’s take a walk tonight
Away from all the light
Into the darkest part of town
Let’s cross the bridge over the angry waters
Roam past the nameless faces
Where we may find a few empty spaces
Let’s stay for awhile
The shadows lurk around us
Darting in between the alleys
Dashing and diving, luring in innocent people
You must keep to your morals
Or you’ll never escape the wrath of darkness
Resist the temptation to taste the pomegranate.
Why look back now?
After all the time has past
Time that I have kept under my watch
Shall I reverse my ways?
Perhaps it too late
A ship on the tempestuous sea
The turbulent wind laughs
As it knocks over the tiny vessel
Dark blue water surrounds
Drowning, dying, desolation
All that is left is my decision to take a chance
I shall take a risk
For my life has been devoid
Is it because I’ve never been overjoyed?
Maybe living well isn’t living at all
