Emilee
I saw you crying yesterday
Don’t worry. It’ll be okay
I wanted to say something, anything
But that thought just seemed so menacing
So I sat quietly, waiting
Putting my thoughts into this poem I was creating
It’s about this girl who thought she was ugly
I could tell she was struggling
And I sat, idly by
Waiting for the tears to run dry
Silent, not saying a sound
I could tell her heart weighed heavy.
She suffered. Depression is deadly.
I didn’t know exactly what was happening
But I know the signs. It saddened me.
I wanted her to smile, I wanted her to laugh
I didn’t want her to go down the same path
I know her pain
Distrust ingrained
Do you know what it’s like?
Have you died inside?
I have, and so did she
I got the message she was sending me
She just needs someone there
To be around, no one cared
She will get better, but how?
Because, frankly, I’m here now
She can cry on my shoulder
I’m here to hold her
I’m trying to help her mend
I want her to know i understand
I’m on your side, I’m your friend
I want to help; my hand extends
All you have to do is take it
