Where I am from
I am from Milwaukee to a peaceful town in North Lake.
I am from a spaced out room with light-brown couches.
I am from walking into the kitchen with food crumbs on the counter.
I am from walking into my bedroom with clean and dirty clothes covering the floors.
I am from my brothers running into trees and garbage cans for fun.
I am from flying off my bike and scraping up my stomach.
I am from soft dark brown hair and the nickname Bug,
from my mom yelling “Genevieve” when she needs me
I am from dog fur on the rug,
from the chairs to dust flying in the air.
I am from drawing little blue flowers to drawing white dandelions,
with seeds flying through the sky.
I am from the rings I wear on my fingers,
from being active with friends.
I am from almost passing out in science class one year,
from weekend camping with family.
I am from painting and drawing when I can,
from reuniting with friends from years before.
I am from using my grandma’s makeup,
from bonfires and going to the zoo.
I am from dancing in my cluttered bedroom and singing into a hairbrush,
to dancing in the pouring rain with my best friend.
I am from going to my first day of fifth grade of my new school,
To walking the halls of Arrowhead High School, with drama in the air and laughter everywhere.
I am from candy wrappers after lunch and dinner.
I am from weekends with friends.
I am from what makes me, me.
