You and I
We made a trip through the woods,
Carved our initials on a tree,
And left them there among the leaves
For all the world to see.
We took a stroll by the sea,
Drew hearts in the sand,
And left them there among the waves
For others to try to understand.
We made handprints in wet cement,
Our precious memories to preserve,
And left them there among the pebbles
For everyone to observe.
We walked through the neighborhood,
Wrote our love on the sidewalk,
And left it there among the grass
For people to see the pink chalk.
We gazed up into the sky,
Traced our names in the stars,
And knew that everything was all right
As long as we had this love of ours.
