Stress Smells Like Salt
One Tuesday morning getting ready for school,
running late as usual.
I read the 7:05 on my digital clock,
A pungent odor of the sea knocks me back in bed.
I race to school,
smelling the salty air everywhere I go,
as if I were on the beach.
The moment I walk through those heavy red doors,
I am bombarded with salt as it clings to my face
and clenches up any moisture in my skin.
I feel like a wet sponge being thrown down on a table
With a beaming light shining down on me.
Absorbing every last drop of liquid and optimism I still possess.
Everywhere I go, salt.
Everything I taste, salt.
Everything I see, salt.
