Sad Story
At the bridge of Erskine
Where the waves whoosh out,
You can hear two girls whine
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
One of the girls was Georgia Rowe, just fifteen, her boyfriend was shot
She was in a woman’s unit to help her bear,
She felt her boyfriend’s hand and it was cold, no longer hot
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
The second girl was Neve Lafferty, her neighbour stabbed her Dad
Oh, poor Neve was sent to a woman’s unit ’cos she was scared to leave the house ever again,
She had it pretty bad
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
Georgia and Neve met at the unit, where they seemed in perfect care
Always cheerful, always fine,
Starting to do normal girl things, like washing and drying their wet hair
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
The families of the girls said they were great
They were moving on,
They would be out of the unit soon, and they could hardly wait
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
Just eight weeks on, just
They planned to escape,
They simply must
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
The girls walked out late at night
Hand in hand, side by side,
Their goal was in their line of sight
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
They jumped off Erskine Bridge to die
They never really got over their troubles,
When their families were told they broke down to let out their cry
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
If you walk by, you can hear two girls say
They are at peace,
They’ve made their own way
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
They are free,
They are in the heavens,
Flying as effortlessly as a bee
It’s a sad story, it’s a sad story.
