What does summer really mean?
Freedom from books homework and teachers?
Or untold secrets from behind the bleachers.
The promising idea of letting go and having fun?
Cutting loose and coming undone.
Long nights by the bonfire, trips with no destination.
Who cares- its summer manifestation.
Does it represent never forgotten memories,
or the lousy excuse of a school vaca; temporary.
But as we lay on the sand and let our bikinied bodies soak,
i think we subconsciously know a tan is only a cloak.
Because as the 3 months wrap up and school sets in,
the tans start to fade and the teachers start to win.
Summers are short lived but always remembered,
even when we’re white as ghosts in the middle of december.
January, February, i know we’re all thinking the same,
Since when did school become a place so lame?
Maybe summer is like a halftime between the seasons,
A time to rest and forget all reasons.
