Elusively
I lay my head down on your chest,
But it falls down through the air.
Crashing on my pillow,
Because you're never really there.
I curl my hand right into yours,
But I never fee your grasp.
Your heart is a fragile necklace,
And I cannot close the clasp.
I wrap my arms around your waist,
To find I am only holding me.
Your elusive presence keeps me awake,
Absent: but all that I can see.
I strain to hear your little laugh,
When your voice jumps soft and deep.
I try to find your presence here,
While I close my eyes to fall asleep.
