How Do I Tell My Daughter
How do I tell my daughter
That the road ahead is rough
That the world expects you to be strong,
Yet says girls are not tough
How do I tell my daughter
That kindness is a virtue
That the world expects you to be nice
Yet constantly tries to hurt you
How do I tell my daughter
That light can be hard to find
That the world expects visionaries to speak
Yet continually poisons your mind
How do I tell my daughter
That her heart is not made of stone
That the world will never cease disappointing
Yet I will never let her cry alone
How do I tell my daughter
That she could never let me down
That the world may turn its back
Yet I will still place upon her head, a crown
How do I tell my daughter
That to fail does not mean to not achieve
That the world will try to take her ambition away
Yet I will always believe
How do I tell my daughter
That her mother’s love can only grow
More than she could ever dare to say
More than the world could ever know
