Autumn Calling
If you listen for the sound of crickets
and campfire flickers
and forested riverbanks,
If you watch the dazzling morning sunlight
and lush, verdant meadows
and ocher, golden leaves,
If you take a walk with nature
as red poison ivy climbs onto urban city trains
as concrete, brick, and asphalt give way to lustrous woodland
as the horizon wears its coat of vines and trees
You would see the world
surrendering to the first blush of autumn.
