Barton Springs
Heat bakes off the pavement.
The fierce sun presses on my bare shoulders,
leaving rosy kisses that will darken tomorrow.
I yearn for the springs.
The frigid plunge shocks me
every time. The water of deep
teal swirls around me,
providing a cooling refuge.
The turquoise liquid sparkles
with white fractals of the sun.
I allow the warmth of her light
to war with the cold encapsulating me.
I begin to go numb, so I
say a wistful farewell
to the sweet water of the springs.
I carry the chill in my bones all day.
Heat bakes off the pavement.
The fierce sun presses on my bare shoulders,
leaving rosy kisses that will darken tomorrow.
I yearn for the springs.

This poem is about my favorite pool in ATX, Barton Springs. The repetition of the first and last stanza represents how I feel wistful for the springs whether I am coming or going. It's a magical place.
