it was only a dream
I had a dream where you kissed me
We were at an airport
You had just arrived
And we ran at each other with tears in our eyes
And laughter on our lips
And we hugged
Your arms snaking around my neck, my hands pressing you against me
And I asked if I could kiss you
And you said
Yes
When our lips connected
Electricity buzzed through me
And I pulled away laughing
I had a dream where you cuddled with me
We lay on the couch
Wrapped in a blanket
Watching some show
It was late at night and all the lights were off
You lay on my chest
Your head resting against mine
Your fingers drummed the same rhythm as my heartbeat
I kissed the top of your head
And you smiled and whispered those words
I had a dream where we were dating
We were in a restaurant
A nice one
You wore a beautiful dress and I a black suit
It was candlelit
Soft violin played in the distance
And we were laughing and talking as if we were the only ones in the room
Perhaps the waiters gave us dirty looks
But it didn't matter
I said something and you laughed
And I took a sip from my drink
All the while drinking in the sound
I had a dream where we were married
Dinner had come and gone
And now we were cleaning up
Or rather
I was cleaning up
My arms were covered in soap and warm water
As I placed a dish on the drainboard
You came up behind me
And wrapped your arms around me
Your head tucked against the crook of my shoulder
And I laughed and said
I love you
And you hummed and said
I love you too
I had a dream where we were happy
But it was only a dream
