waffle house MAG
we come in young and hungry and tired and
it’s nearly midnight but we are
so so awake.
sweatshirts and fancy dresses
overcrowd the too-small booths
as we order food –
greasy, horrible, amazing food –
and then I slip off to the
jukebox with a crumpled dollar,
back just in time for
waffles and hash browns and good friends and
the late night’s fleeting promise that
nothing really matters outside of
this.
