knuckles cracking
the slap of sneakers on the pavement
the screen door slamming
cicadas buzzing in the heat
purple rain playing nonstop
partly to mask the hidden heartache
of my household
partly because my parents never left the eighties
soundtrack to my life
a cacophonous orchestra
i feel my heart fracture
as i try to fit a lifetime into mere minutes
constantly searching for the hour between dusk and dark
where the sun catches the world in its rays
delicately
golden hour
chrysopoeia.
