Still we rise
We Still Rise
(Response to Maya Angelou)
As she has said before me, “Still I rise!”
What does this mean you wonder,
And for that I shall ponder
The true meaning in between the surface
Of why we still rise.
Do we rise because we want to,
Or do we rise because we have to?
Do we rise because we feel deprived
Of our true tides?
Again we still rise.
Fighting for privilege or
Because of the disadvantages of life
Whether we’re living to die or dying to live,
If we stand together
Naturally
We all shall still rise.
