Elementary school was like Candy Land,
all play and fun and sweet surprises.
Instructions were included,
but no one really needed them, since it was
straightforward and simple,
and every one of us followed the same path,
some just a little ahead of others.
We saw only the space we were standing on,
the card we had drawn,
and we were perfectly content.
We didn’t see the bigger picture,
but the beauty of it
was that we didn’t need to.
