Valentines Day

The day that singles say they dread

The day of red

But does anyone know what the day says?

Valentines day

The day of feasts

To honor our St. Valentinus

The Christians created it, did you know?

They made it all about love

A long long time ago

It started out as imprisonment

For St. Valentine knew he was doing what shouldn’t be done

Marrying soldiers who should not wed

And the Christians who were persecuted

Those were better off left unsaid

But St. Valentine

He did it again and again

Imprisonment he faced and the imprisonment came

He cured the blindness out of a girl

The judge was her father

Valentinus wrote her a letter

Sincerely, Your Valentine

As a goodbye

And then came the evangelists

It was all Chaucer’s fault, evangelist

In the 1300’s he created the courtly love that started it all

By the 18th century

Lord help us all

Their was cupid and cards

And flowers and doves

It soon spread to America and then life was done

Now February 14th has infected us all
