Last Shot
Game on the line,
State Championship,
Sweaty hands and feet.
Knees like jelly,
Ten, nine, eight,
At the top.
I stand,
Spherical leather ball,
In my sweaty hands.
Lanky defensive players,
Bearing over me,
One on one for the State Championship.
Dribble to the right,
Between my legs,
Then swiftly behind my back.
Shot is up,
Clunk,
My heart sinks into my shoes.
Never to be found,
For quite some time.
