The Kraken
Splash, bang, boom
Drip, drip, leak
Buckets full
To the brim with
Water
Pouring the water
Over the sides
Of the rocking, waterlogged boat
Blue, blue sea reflects the sun
But
Something
Lies below
Waiting
For the call of
man overboard
But none comes
Because
The men
-pirates-
Leave the leaking ship
And paddle away
In the lifeboat
Just in time
As
Wriggling suctioned tentacles creep
Onto the polished wood
Of the sinking watercraft
The kraken is awake
And
The sea seems to be alive
Quick
Paddle to the island
And everybody will survive.
Sun bears down
Sweat dripping
Pirates rowing
And
Kraken creeping
The island nears
Slowly but surely
Then
With a sudden creak
The lifeboat tips:
The kraken has caught up
Pirates dive out
Their only hope is
To swim towards the sandy shore
Before the kraken
Finds out they’ve gone
Swimming as fast
As possible
-As quietly
As possible-
The pirates reach the island
Finally
Safe
At last.
