Thank You
From the deepest, darkest depths of my broken body,
I thank you.
Thank you
For the love and affection I longingly yearned
As my dog lay on the hospital bed in pain and persecution.
My head would be impulsively
assessing the unknown
if it wasn’t for you and your love.
Thank you
For the presents and purple pansies
When my mother abruptly passed.
No one else sent anything except you.
Your compassion gave me great solace.
Thank you
For the longing laughs
After I didn’t get the job.
The barricade of intrusive thoughts
made my mind tranquil,
It gave me a break from my jungle of a brain.
Thank you
For the helping hand
As I sat on the cold, bathroom tile, the pill bottle lying on the floor.
I wouldn’t be living, breathing, realizing
If it wasn’t for the care you gave.
Now we sit here,
Pencil and paper in hand,
And wonder how we deserve such love and compassion,
Such support and structure.
What did I do?
But you see,
It’s exactly that.
We receive and we give,
For everything we have is through an act of
even the simplest of compassion.
Maybe there is hope.
Maybe we still have
even the smallest glimpse of bright light in ourselves to create a willing world once again.
So,
From the deepest, darkest depths of my mended body,
I thank you.
