Prison of Nature
The rocks are broken like a promise,
their halves now dressed in soft moss;
The wind tangoes with the trees,
leaves danced aloft and branches swaying;
There’s mud where the lake meets the sand,
enough to dirty any intruder’s shoes;
Gracile hummingbirds sing as the rain starts falling,
their music caressing the rest of the forest;
I know nature’s magnificence can never
be escaped or escape itself;
And so, I lie at the base of the tallest tree for miles,
roots and grass meandering around my bare ankles,
beguiling squirrels playing with each of my delicate toes,
for I haven’t moved in a lifetime;
I am trapped in a prison of nature,
the most beautiful prison in the world.
