CHAINS OF THE SOCIETY
I hoped to live in a palace,
But the Society was a barrier that I was unable to cross
Hence, here I am, a child laborer.
So, come and hear the thoughts that I have about my being
Society is such a tyrant place,
I wonder why I was bought there
My requests were never heeded to,
I was taught to be careful
For I was never to be caught
My life had become boring and dull,
Each day receding like a converging mull
My life was a plight, a miserable sight
I was overwhelmed by this forbidden sight,
For I was bounded to the chain of rules
That was, in fact, our society
I had lost my aplomb, I had become a bolshie lamb,
Bleating noises escaped from me,
Wanting to be freed from this plight
Wanting and Having are two separate elements
Both of them mulish in their own ways
The norms of the society are a great fearful thing,
Cause they made me look like a deviant beast
Deviant as I was,
Everybody showed me empathy
For my life was like the Great Apocalypse,
Completely drowned in misery
I was arduous,
Intriguingness had long before left me,
I was mortified for a company,
My ambitions were buried within me
But one day a miracle
zoomed right in
A lady saw my plight
And decided to take me in
I had new clothes
And food to eat
But most importantly,
I had the education to give me wings
It wasn't easy to settle in
But as time went on,
I discovered that your Will can never be dampened
That your ambitions can never be tamed
Elphis, the spirit of hope, is the one who taught me this.
It helped me to live life as a whole,
And for eternity speaking about giving up,
Would be blasphemy to me.

About the poem and the author:
According to the Oxford Dictionary the meaning of life is summed up as :
The condition of being able to function and grow.
But is this the true meaning? From my perspective, Life is growth. Mental, physical, emotional, and intellectual growth. But even today in the 21st Century many individuals do not have access to basic amenities and human rights. The poem ' Chains of the society' summarizes and tries to capture the emotions that a child laborer, who has been stripped of all the basic rights and amenities, feels.
The author, Nidhi, is a visionary and an ambitious person who strives to be a world-changer in the best way possible.
