My Father
I could hear those impatient footsteps
Echoing outside the labour room
Those tense eyes were waiting for my first cry
But I didn't know who he was.
His eyes lit up at my very sight
His huge hands covered me like a blanket
He kissed gently on my forehead
Yet I didn't know who he was.
He celebrated my arrival
Hosted a party for the same
Invited a bunch of friends and relatives
Yet I didn't know who he was.
He taught me to walk
Forever in my life
He taught me to love
Everyone in my world
Yet I didn't know who he was.
He patted my head at times of victory
And let out a helping hand whenever I fell
He loved me unconditionally
And I loved him back
Now knowing who he truly is for me.
Life has taught me several lessons
Most of which still stay in my head
But that one heart's lesson was him
A battery filled with tonnes of emotions
The giver of my life - my Father.......
