waiting on a subway at night
pearly nude lips,
pillars in amber light coating.
between spackles of light, sharp shattering nails
scraped along the pearls, edging closer. a humid air hangs
from a burlap cord, twisting, twirling. the subway lights flash among them, short earthquakes of the shuttering subway train.
knotted coffee hair and a smeared face,
ruddy coat shift colors in the station.
smelling of alcohol and vanilla, her stretched fingertips dangle faded rosary beads.
her eyes melt into the cement below her, swirling into a grey mixture. and she stands
still.
