new coats for nihilists

i was a silent beggar
with skinned cherry knees
and lotus cheeks.
nude in a
cigarette ash and peppermint oil
bath.
i clasped my stubby fingertips
around your cloak,
a tea-stained bedsheet smelling of
Goethe and chamomile.
a newborn with
sticky limbs and watery eyes;
i begged for skin in
any size.
scanning with panoramic eyes,
pallid and piercing in the
velvet air
for your hue.
