His Eyes
I look up
A glance, meant to be quick
Just curious, just wondering
Yet I find my eyes lingering
I don’t want to turn away
A longing keeps me captivated
An invisible force from the deep
I am struck by what I see
My muscles frozen, my heart aflame
There are not enough words
Beautiful
No, more than beautiful
Almost more than perfection
Even in my most daring daydreams
My imagination pales to this reality
Deeper than the ocean blue
Wilder than a jungle of green
A thousand shades melded together
Somehow simple and pure
Yet elegant and wise
Each one was tinged with sadness
No, not quite sad, but experienced
Someone who knows the pain of this world
But who knows its greatest joys, too
A firework show
A galaxy of starbursts
The beckoning of great adventure
Gentle sunbeams beyond every storm
Hazel, green, blue, brown
Impossible to define
Impossible to forget
I find myself still staring
I just can’t let go
Yet at that moment that I realize
His eyes are staring back
I blink and force my gaze elsewhere
But the damage is done
“Hey,” he smiles
“Hey,” I grin
I fight the blush rising in my cheeks
And in that moment I know that I’ve glimpsed it
A piece of my future inside those alluring eyes
The first fragment of the great mystery some would call love

Dedicated to the boy with the most beautiful eyes, the one who I think of when I fall asleep at night, the one upon whose heartbeat I now rest my head upon.
