My Dear Pet
Be good, my dear pet, while I am away
Remember—no short shorts, and don’t show your shoulder
But don’t you know? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Your hair is too curly, my beautiful / the frizz
sticks up like antlers / use a flat iron, my
little love / you will be beautiful
with hair like sticks.
Your skin is imperfect, my dear / your features
should be unfeatured / revive yourself with
makeup, little one / one a new face
will make you beautiful.
Your clothes are drab, my sweet / your style
is extinct / you have no worth if
your wardrobe is old / only new clothes
will make you beautiful.
You’re alone in this world, my darling / you are
not worthy of anything else / no one
can love you if you are not beautiful / be
beautiful, my pet, be beautiful.
Be beautiful, my pet, be beautiful.
Be better, my pet, be better.
Be better, I say.
Be better.
