woman.
It’s hard to be a woman
of any race or religion
with or without rights
Sometimes, I’m basic
and other days, I’m weird; demanding
I’m not a prude
but am I asking for it?
Still, who am I to trust the word of boys
still my age, but half my maturity
Yet when my teacher pulled me close to him
did I fight back?
Maybe that’s why I spend hours
in my room lifting weights
Only to be told I’m a woman;
I’m not supposed to be strong.
