It Comes At Night
With its red beady eyes
And silver glistening teeth,
It begs to taste my flesh
And see what’s underneath
It was there in the mirror,
My bed and bathroom.
It lies patiently,
Waiting for my doom.
It’s there when Dad leaves,
And when the boys at school talk.
But most importantly it is there
At the mirror and scale,
Where the bad thoughts flock.
My therapist wants to help,
But try as they might.
There’s nothing to calm its thirst
When it comes at night.
