The Apology I Never Received
“i’m sorry
i’m sorry if when i left
my words turned into bullets
continuously piercing
new holes
in your delicate heart
causing permanent
irreversible scars
that would go on to
imprison the remaining fragments
of what wasn't
torn
apart
i wish i had said
i’m sorry you had to
break down
my esoteric comments.
that you had to search for
meaning in a bunch of
meaningless words
that my ambiguity created
clouds of haze
that fogged all our days
withholding you from someone who
would've really stayed.
and for that i should’ve said
i’m sorry that i
never
treated
you
right.
that i left you to build a fortress
all by yourself
within the span of a single night
that i failed to turn on the lights
that i gave no foreboding signs
that i didn’t even say goodbye
i’m sorry
for giving you
the impression
that you
had
something you
never
quite
had
i’m sorry that i let go of the best i ever had”
This piece was written from the perspective of a lover who had wronged his partner and regrets what he did. In actuality, it is written from the perspective of a heartbroken girl who wishes said partner had apologized to her before their split about all he did wrong in their relationship, hence the title, "The Apology I Never Received." I hope people can take away the idea that love is heartbreak and heartbreak unfortunately doesn't always end in closure.
