So Wretched A Heart
Standing guard
Before the door of my heart
Spear in hand
While eyes nervously they dart.
My heart—
Such a scarred and wretched thing
Locked down for love is cruel
A silent song of mourning it does sing.
Then you came
In the dead of night
The door left defenseless
Though I put up a fight.
You breathed in
The dark and curling tendrils
Of my soul and gave it new life—
Took my heart in your hands
Without any strife.
Why do you smile
When you see
So wretched a heart
As beats within me?
