In Your Eyes MAG
Your eyes are weathered and patched
like a pair of old jeans that
I don't want to throw away
They are little gray pebbles
drowning in the rain
under sleepy brown hair the color
of coffee with too much cream
You say you gave up on life
a long time ago
but you are still here searching for
something
Aren't we all
Your back is bent like iron
strong but rusted almost through
You try to stand on your two small
feet in red-checked slippers
to hide from the tile floor
What are you looking for
I think sometimes when you blink
I can almost see the little girl
you were
before your skin faded away to
scrape your ribs
The little girl with sky blue eyes
who danced in yellow buttercups
like a tiny butterfly balancing on petals
of dreams
Before you broke
Where did you go
