Two Blackbirds
The two blackbirds from the same egg live in the one decrepit nest
One’s sickness infects the other’s sanity
Through intimate embraces, encouraged by the family crest
Forced on by the old tree’s inhumanity
He struggles with a decision
She is blocking his way
And without any revision
The predator becomes the prey
Even in death her shrill song is distracting
Her brother is still listening
Tries to laugh, tries to sing
But in paralyzing fear his eyes are glistening
Finally the worst has come
The beaten bird comes back to take a life
Together the blackbirds fall to the ground numb
In this storm the nest splits and falls in spite
