the Day Before Thanksgiving
I step outside
Being injected into the soles of my bare feet
Are the needles of the chill of the bricks
Under my toes.
I stumble slightly
As I make my way
Down the leaf-strewn path
The crescendos and decrescendos of the sirens making their boisterous way around town.
My feet agonize on the cold, dewy grass
Grabbing my toes and enveloping them in chills, in goose bumps
And a swirl of sweet sugar
Forms in the late afternoon sky above me.
It's fairly peaceful here
As the acoustic works of the neighbor
Drifts easily around the block
The day before Thanksgiving on Sheppard Drive.
