You look at me
dark eyes smiling
mouth curved up
affectionate
You hold my hand
strong and warm
I know I’ll always be
safe with you
My head on your chest
arms wrapped around me
your steady heartbeat
a soothing lullaby
Lean in, lean away
try to remember
what it was like
before
Time won’t rewind
what’s done is done
no one can take back
mistakes
Your face is set
no emotion beneath
I gently touch your face
as I walk away
Breaking your heart
was never my plan
nothing ever works out
like it’s supposed to
