With years to come
I remember when I held your hand for the first time.
With my little hands inside yours.
I remember the first time that I cried.
And your shoulder was always my cure.
I look back at the good times when you saw your little girl smile.
And the times you sat her down to talk about her mistakes.
So glad I was that you accepted me as your child.
I remember when you told me not to rush love, just let it be faith.
Wise words you told me.
And tender love you gave.
Cleared my path so I can see,
And you never let anything get in my way.
Now we both grow with age.
And your little girl is not so little anymore.
She has her own mind,
Her own smile,
And her own voice.
But with that leys a piece of your personality.
A refection of your smile,
And a strong voice to speak your words.
Every day is another day we learn from one another.
I take your teachings into life,
And you have the reassurance that everything might just be alright.
We keep each other very near to each other’s heart.
Years might come and his little girls is going to grow,
And make a life of her own.
So she might start a new story of her life,
And all he can do is hold the memories within.
But a daughter never gets too old to know where the story truly began.
