Forever Missed, Never Forgotten
It’s amazing how quickly everything can change
How suddenly nothing else matters
How fast your schedule can be rearranged
How easy it is to come together
To not worry about hiding your emotions
To give hugs freely
It isn’t right though
Wednesday night shouldn’t be cleared for a vigil
Friday night shouldn’t be reserved for a funeral
You shouldn’t be sitting two rows back from your teachers
And across the isle from your principal
Flowers and Sunny D shouldn’t have to be placed
On the side of the road
In the blink of an eye all were blindsided
Instead of planning an open house they’re planning a funeral
Instead of tears of joy at graduation they’re tears of pain
Instead of posters of good luck they’re post-it notes of memories
No matter how close you were or how long it’s been since you said hi
All are mourning the loss of one of our own
We’re no good at this
We’re no good at knowing what to do at a funeral
Full of old teachers and friends
We’re no good at coping with death during exams
Or knowing what to say through the tears
We’re no good at knowing how to say goodbye
We shouldn’t have to know how to be good at this
We don’t want to be here
But we need to be
We need to pray and look out for one another
We need to remember
Remember the good times and
How precious and fragile life can be
The class of 2010 will never be the same
There’s a hole where a big heart used to be
One that never failed to put a smile on your face
One that has left us too soon
One that will be forever missed
But never forgotten
