Cities
all these stars
they're where you are too
or are they concealed by the blazing lights
of a distant city
every minute it seems we're farther
in body and soul
our flare has been extinguished
an unwanted end
but it was foreseen
we only watched as we withered
and wilted and weakened
and dwindled
this star was fading
but it was hidden away from view
concealed by the blazing lights
of a distant city
I can't help but look up
and wonder if you regret leaving
or wonder if you're looking up
at your blue sky
and imagining stars where I am
if you're seeing that even ours isn't shining
or are you so blinded
is the actuality being concealed by the blazing lights
of a distant city
all these stars in a boundless
eternal, undying
perpetual sky
and ours was the one to relinquish all life
