I thought I loved
Once before
I thought I'd had
Something more
I thought my heart
Was given away
I thought that love
Had turned my way
I thought twas more
Than a glance
I thought this once
I had my chance
I thought this time
That you
Just this once
Had loved me too
I thought that this
Would be beautiful
I thought so much
My heart was full
But my thoughts lied
My heart was wrong
But the damage is done
Its been too long
Too late now
To save my heart
I was not careful
You tore it apart
I should've backed down
When I'd had the chance
But I was not wise
With this romance
It doesn't matter
It never did
You don't know
What I had hid
You'll never know
For that I'm glad
I wouldn't want to break
What love we had
Wouldn't want to lose
Our friendship fragile
Continue to be friends
To see you smile
It was once love
That's what I thought
Thought it would last
But it did not
I thought I could cope
When the end came
Oh, how I wish
Things had stayed the same
But things have changed
Thanks to you
I should have known
That you loved, too
I thought my love
For you was strong
I thought I loved
But I was wrong

The author's comments:
This is dedicated to my best friend, whom I have loved since 9th grade. I honestly do not know why I wrote it, considering he has never broken my heart, but I suppose the mere fact that he knows and does not care promoted such feelings. I hope others can relate to what is said in the poem.
